About this activity

Highlights

  • Capture the iconic golden Lord Murugan statue and rainbow steps at Batu Caves.
  • Visit Malaysia's premier center for the rescue and relocation of Asian elephants
  • Watch a documentary detailing the heroic efforts of the elephant translocation
  • See rescued elephants up close during their daily feeding and social interaction
  • Learn about the challenges of human-wildlife conflict and habitat preservation.

Your adventure begins with a convenient pickup from designated locations. The first stop is the iconic Batu Caves, where you’ll have the chance to marvel at the vibrant, colorful steps and the towering Lord Murugan statue—perfect for capturing memorable photos against the dramatic limestone backdrop. Next, immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings of Deerland Park, where you can interact with gentle wildlife such as deer, rabbits, and peacocks. The highlight of your journey awaits at the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, Malaysia’s renowned National Elephant Conservation Centre. Here, you’ll gain insights into elephant rescue and rehabilitation efforts, observing elephants in their natural habitat at the Electric Fence Observation Area and enjoying close encounters with baby elephants, depending on their health. A translocation video in the auditorium further illustrates the sanctuary’s vital conservation work. After a simple, refreshing lunch, your guided sanctuary activities may include witnessing or even joining in bathing sessions with adult elephants by the riverside (subject to water levels), enjoying an educational show featuring elephants and their mahouts at the stage area, and spending more time with baby elephants for a truly heartwarming experience. The day concludes with a comfortable return journey to Kuala Lumpur, with drop-off at your original pickup location.

The Batu Caves were stunning, especially the giant Murugan statue. The elephant sanctuary was really moving, seeing the work they do and feeding the elephants was a highlight.

The Batu Caves part was pretty crowded, but the sanctuary was the main draw and it was fascinating to learn about the elephant rescue work. Lunch was decent enough.

Seeing the elephants at Kuala Gandah was really special, especially watching them get their food. Batu Caves was impressive, the steps are so vibrant.
