Your adventure begins with a scenic drive through the lush mountain forest, ascending to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the city’s most sacred temple. Built in 1383, this mountain-top sanctuary houses a holy relic of the Lord Buddha. You can choose to challenge yourself by climbing the famous 306-step Naga serpent staircase or take a convenient funicular to the summit. At the top, marvel at the glittering golden pagoda (Chedi) and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Chiang Mai valley below. The tour continues further up the mountain to Bhubing Palace, the royal winter residence built in 1961. While the palace buildings are reserved for the Royal Family and state guests, the public is invited to explore the world-renowned gardens. Stroll through the Suan Suwaree rose garden, featuring rare temperate flowers and exotic species seldom seen elsewhere in Thailand. A good half-day trip. The drive up Doi Suthep-Pui National Park was scenic. The temple is very impressive, but it was quite crowded. Bhubing Palace was a nice contrast with its peaceful gardens.
The Naga staircase to Doi Suthep was a climb but totally worth it for the golden pagoda views. Bhubing Palace gardens were beautiful, lots of vibrant flowers and even some peacocks strutting around.
Really enjoyed the visit to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the gold on the pagoda gleamed. Loved wandering through the Bhubing Palace gardens, the rose collection was particularly stunning.
